My Teaching Manifesto

Last year was an extremely busy year for me; along with teaching 3 courses I hadn’t taught before, I also got married and bought a house. With so much going on at work and at home, blogging took a backseat. Of course being reflective and trying new things didn’t stop, but I’ve missed sharing my thoughts on the blog. So I’m jumping back in.

I recently read a post from Susan Barber about her teaching manifesto: a list of commitments for the upcoming school year. After an unintentional hiatus from blogging, I wanted to recommit to several aspects of my teaching and use this blog to hold myself accountable.

Reading: I will have an active reading life and share it with my students.

Writing: I will confer with students to help individual students develop their writing.

Relationships: I will learn about my students as individual learners and people.

Leadership: I will continue leading the MHHS Teacher Think Tank (teacher led professional development group).

Professional: I will remain solutions focused as I work within my school community and the educational community at large to improve education.
